The People’s Choice Award is among 25 categories to be contested in the third edition of the Zim Hip-Hop Awards announced by organisers’ public relations officer Florence Goto.

The other hotly contested category is the Song of the Year gong where the songs Zunguza (Marques), Chibhodhoro (Stunner), Happy (Tehn Diamond|), Zvidhori (MMT) and Madrinks (Jnr Brown) will be voted for by the public.

The People’s Choice Award and the Song of the Year Award are the only two categories that will be voted for on the Zim Hip-Hop Awards website and through ZiFM.

The nominees for the remaining 23 categories will be announced next week. Outstanding categories are: Best Male, Best Female, Best Newcomer, Best Collaboration, Best Promoter, Best Album, Best Dance Crew, Best Radio DJ, Lifetime Achievement, Best Freestyle Artiste, Video of the Year, Best High School Act, Best Gospel Act, Best Producer, Best Hip-Hop Group, Best Album Art, Best Diaspora, Best Solo Dancer, Best Positive Social Contribution, Best Corporate Brand Supporting Local Hip-Hop, Best Regional Hip-Hop Act, Best Hip-Hop Media and Best Club DJ.

Former Big Brother Africa stars Vimbai Mutinhiri and Munyaradzi Chidzonga will be this year’s co-hosts. The two have a lot of experience in film and broadcasting.

Larry Kwirirai, the adjudicators’ spokesperson, told the journalists that a code of conduct has been drafted which artistes are expected to adhere to.

“This year the nominated artistes will be struck with heavy penalties if they misbehave during the awards ceremony. Such artistes will not be eligible for nomination for the next two years and I bet they will miss a lot during that time,” said Kwirirai.
