FROM
humble beginnings, Mbonisi Mahonondo — affectionately known as Mbo Mahocs — is
proving to be a household name in the entertainment sector by becoming
Bulawayo’s first magazine cover in Jewel magazine.

Jewel magazine that celebrates fashion, lifestyle and
also women. Chiwoniso Maraire, Tinopona Katsande, Plaxedes Wenyika, among
others, have also featured on the magazine cover. The 25-year-old multitalented
Mahocs told Southern Eye Lifestyle that she was happy about the development and
it meant a lot to the City of Kings.
“As a young woman, I never thought or dreamt of being on
a magazine cover. I don’t know what they saw in me and all I can say is this
is, God’s hand working in my life. I think this is inspirational to someone
that anything is possible.”
“I’m humbled and I know there is a young woman out there
looking up to me,” Mahocs said.
She also added that this development had made a point
that Bulawayo is a hub of entertainment.
“This shows that as Bulawayo we are still there and we
are breaking new grounds. We are a city which others look upon when it comes to
entertainment and we should stop blaming anyone saying we are marginalised. We
have to be responsible for all that comes in our way,” she said.
The fast-rising entertainer urged other young people to
fight for their destiny and what they believe in.
“You can’t wait for good things to come to you on a
silver plate, but you should work for it. Most of us have become comfortable in
consuming yet we are suppose to be making things happen,” she said.
Many have been criticised for being in the entertainment
sector, but Mahocs is proud being a television host, fashion editor for Deck
Magazine, an online magazine, actress and fashionista.
“There is nothing wrong being with the entertainment
sector and one can actually make a living out of it. It’s a good thing doing
what you love doing. As for me, I realised that I talk a lot and thought why
should I not try television and I am actually doing well as we are receiving a
lot of positive comments,”
The beautiful Mahocs headlined issue 20 of the national
magazine and she is seen in the pictures showcasing her art and sense of
fashion as she strides in different designs by local fashion designers
Rebelious Klothing by Nkululeko Ncube and Shadow by Sdumiso Tshuma and also
Sheena Noyo, among others.
“The magazine issue was not only about uMbo, but about
Bulawayo as it gave local designers a platform to get their designs out.
Surely, it worked and I can safely say that Bulawayo is talented,” Mahocs
revealed.
Mahocs hosted The Red Carpet at the recently-held
Zimbabwe Fashion Weekend in Harare.
Bulawayo’s sweetheart, as Mahocs has become, was born and
raised in the City of Kings, and went to Evelyn High School.
The bubbly Mahocs is studying towards a diploma in
Architecture at Bulawayo Polytechnic and although she didn’t enjoy it at the
beginning, she says she has grown to love it because it gets her creative
juices flowing.
She has featured in a one-woman play titled The Really
Stupid Things Men Say which was written, directed and produced by Mgcini Nyoni
and also on a short film titled Look of Love.
She is under the management of Hunnar Management Agency
which has a lot of talented individuals under their name such as Rebeliuous
Klothing, Shadow by Sdu and BlinQ.
