ZVISHAVANE – Bosso and Harare City clash in the Mdada Diamonds Cup Semi-Finals
this Saturday at Mandava Stadium in a crunch match which will also be a dress
rehearsal of their Castle Lager Premier League match pencilled for Week 29 of
the domestic premiership.
Report by Leopold Munhende
Both teams are aiming for the double this
season with the Bulawayo giants sitting on 48 points after 27 games and Harare City
clinging on to second place on goal difference having garnered 49 points equal
to DeMbare.
Highlanders booted Army side Buffaloes 3-0
out of the $130 000 rich Cup at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo two weeks back
while City overcame Hwange 2-0 at Rufaro.
Highlanders have since dropped five points
in two games, losing 1-0 to league champions and log leaders Dynamos and
drawing 1 all with Motor Action while Harare City are coming from a morale
draining 0-0 with Black Rhinos at Rimuka Stadium.
This is a huge task for both teams which
might eventually prove decisive in determining how their league encounter will
go in Harare.
Bosso will bank on inform attacking winger Masimba
Mambare who has been on a scoring spree of late while Bigboy Mawiwi will pin
his hopes on experienced players in his squad such as David Kutyauripo and
Martin Vengesayi who were released by Dynamos at the beginning of the season.
Even though Zvishavane has played host to a
lot of cup games this season, having hosted all NetOne Charity Cup games
including the final, BancABC Sup8r Final and a number of Mbada Diamonds clashes,
this promises to be the best cup game hosted at Mandava yet.
Harare City in their second year in the
topflight has been able to stand toe to toe against traditional giants, giving
them headaches everytime they clash.
Speaking after they knocked out Buffaloes, Kelvin
Kaindu the Bosso Gaffer said that they were aiming for a final berth and
nothing else.
“I have confidence in my boys that we will
reach the final. They are playing good football and morale is always high, if we
maintain such a mood then we will definitely be in the final,” said the Zambian
gaffer.
Winners of the Mbada Diamonds Cup are
guaranteed a $130 000 pay cheque with $110 000 subsidy to play in the
Confederations Cup next season.
