At Star FM's first anniversary celebrations held at Harare Gardens, tensions arose as members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and security staff conducted stringent searches for drugs among the attending artistes. Armed with dogs and baton sticks, the police patrolled the venue, focusing particularly on the backstage area where they conducted random searches on the artistes.
Layan Soldier, a Star FM DJ and sibling to dancehall sensation Winky D, found himself among those subjected to the police scrutiny. Additionally, the security team reportedly harassed and forcibly removed artistes who had completed their performances from the stage area, even resorting to unleashing dogs on individuals in the backstage vicinity.
The event took a somber turn as emerging talents, primarily upcoming artistes, faced the risk of being pelted with projectiles, leading to shortened performances and a stifled platform to showcase their skills. The situation was further exacerbated by the absence of established artistes like King Shady, Jiggaz, Spiderman, Lady Squanda, and Lady Bee, who were scheduled to perform but failed to make an appearance.
However, amidst the chaos, Romeo "Shinsoman" Anthony delivered a standout performance, reinvigorating his music career with an energetic display. Dressed in an orange overall, Shinsoman captivated the crowd, particularly with his hit track "Mawayawaya," and his collaboration with Freeman, "Ndinomira Semukono," proved to be a crowd-pleaser.
While some performers relied on backtracks, artists like Dadza D, who showcased hits such as "Magetsi" and "Baba Fungi," and Guspy Warrior, with his rendition of "Seunononga," stood out for their exceptional performances, leaving a lasting impression on the audience amidst the tumultuous atmosphere.
